The service
A maintenance package covers ongoing care after installation. Remote monitoring, scheduled checks of the parts that quietly degrade, updates applied deliberately on a schedule we control, and configuration changes as the way you use the building changes.
Most of it happens remotely. A new lighting scene, a revised heating schedule, an added user on the access system, a camera zone that needs narrowing. These are configuration jobs handled without a van leaving Derby, faster and cheaper than a call-out.
The in-person side covers what genuinely needs hands: periodic electrical inspection, checking actuators and valve heads, verifying camera focus, testing alarm devices and batteries, and looking inside racks and panels for the heat and dust that shorten equipment life.
What it costs to leave it
Degradation is gradual and easy to tolerate. One scene stops matching the room after a lamp changes. A heating schedule stops fitting the routine. A camera drifts slightly out of focus. Each is minor and gets worked around instead of fixed, until the family drives everything manually, having paid for a system that's now decoration.
Hidden failures cost more. A blocked, unventilated rack running hot shortens the life of everything inside it. A stuck heating actuator heats a room all winter with no error message. A backup battery in an alarm panel fails silently until the power goes off. None of it announces itself. All of it is found by looking.
The other risk is knowledge loss. Systems with no documented configuration and no supporting contractor become a liability at sale or handover, when a buyer inherits something nobody can explain. Keeping the documentation current protects what the system is worth.
How the job runs
01
We look at what's installed, how it's configured and what documentation exists, whether we installed it or inherited it.
02
Scope, visit frequency, response expectations and what's handled remotely versus on site, all set out in writing.
03
Secure remote access for diagnostics, health checks and configuration changes, so most requests are sorted the same day without a visit.
04
Periodic on-site checks of actuators, sensors, batteries, camera focus, rack ventilation and the fixed electrical installation where included.
05
We document findings and changes, and keep configuration records current so the system stays understandable.
What you actually get
Scenes, schedules, users and detection zones adjusted remotely, usually the same day, without waiting for a call-out or paying for travel.
Scheduled checks catch stuck actuators, hot racks, ageing batteries and drifting cameras while they're still routine.
Configuration that follows your actual routine means the automation keeps earning its place instead of being overridden manually within two years.
Firmware and software updated in a controlled way, tested against your configuration before being applied, so it won't arrive unannounced and break a scene overnight.
Configuration and as-installed records maintained, protecting what the system is worth at sale or handover to a new facilities team.
A named contractor who knows your system, with emergency and out-of-hours support available on request.
In detail
Maintenance is only useful if the scope is clear. Here's what our packages typically cover across domestic automation and commercial systems in Derby and the East Midlands.
Secure remote access is the backbone of the service. Faults get diagnosed before anyone travels, and most configuration changes are done the same day.
Some things only reveal themselves in person. Heat, dust, mechanical wear and physical drift cause most gradual system decline.
The control system sits on a fixed electrical installation, and that installation has its own inspection requirements independent of the automation.
Households want responsiveness and someone who knows their system. Commercial clients need defined scope, records and predictable scheduling.
Before you enquire
It depends on the size and type of system and how many on-site visits are included, so we price per agreement. Scope is set out in writing before you commit.
Yes, subject to a review first. We need to understand what's installed before taking responsibility for it, and we'll tell you if something isn't supportable.
Most remote requests are handled the same or next working day. On-site response expectations are agreed clearly as part of the package.
For configuration, yes: scenes, schedules, users, notifications and detection zones are all changed remotely. Anything physical, like a failed actuator, needs a visit.
Available on request for automation and commercial clients. It's not a standard guaranteed service, but ask and we'll tell you exactly what we can commit to.
Actuators and valve heads, alarm devices and batteries, camera focus and framing, rack and panel condition, lighting drivers and scene trims, and the electrical items in your agreement.
It can be included in the agreement, along with PAT testing and emergency lighting testing for commercial premises. Remedial work arising is quoted separately.
Cabling and infrastructure last decades. Controllers are updated in software, and wearing parts like actuators, batteries and drivers get replaced individually as they age.
