We get called out to the same handful of things. Nobody planned the cabling. The lighting control circuits were split the way a standard install would be. Three contractors each fitted their own hub. The owner ends up with four apps on their phone and has to ring somebody to change a dimmer setting.
R Electrical Solutions Ltd is an electrical contractor in Derby first and a smart home automation specialist second. We hold NAPIT Full Scope registration and cover all aspects of electrical work. That means the first fix, the control strategy and the programming get worked out together by the same people, and there is nobody to point a finger at when something does not line up.
Before starting the company, Ross Hutchinson spent years building and commissioning control panels and conveyor systems for food-handling plants around the world. How the job runs,
from first call to handover
You will not find "from" prices here. The first visit is free, and we only charge for design once you have decided to go ahead. After that, payments are staged at first fix, second fix and completion.

Free initial consultation
We come out, look at the property, and tell you what we would do. We will also tell you what to leave alone.

Design
If you want to go ahead, we draw it up. Schematics, cable schedules and the control strategy, so nothing gets invented on site.

Install, first and second fix
Our own team on site, with payments staged at first fix and second fix. Nothing subcontracted out to strangers.

Commission and hand over
Programming, testing and certification, then a walkthrough with everyone who lives there. Maintenance afterwards if you want it.

The questions we
get asked most
Do I have to automate the whole house at once?
No. There are no fixed packages. A lot of people start with heating or one floor of lighting. We size the cabling and the cabinet for the full job, so adding to it later does not mean lifting floors twice.
Are you tied to one manufacturer?
We are an official Loxone Partner and use Loxone on most projects. We also design, install and programme Lutron, Rako, KNX, ClickSmart, HD Anywhere and Sonos when the job calls for it.
What guarantee do I get?
Qualifying installation work carries a 6-year workmanship guarantee backed by NAPIT. Everything else carries at least 12 months. Maintenance packages are available after that.
Do you publish prices?
No. Two jobs that sound identical on the phone can be thousands apart once we have seen them, so a headline figure would only mislead you. The first visit is free and you get a written quotation before you commit to anything.
Do you carry insurance?
Yes. £10m public liability, £10m employers' liability and £1m professional indemnity. We can issue RAMS for any project on request.
Do you cover out-of-hours call-outs?
Usually, yes, for commercial and automation clients. We do not advertise it as a guaranteed service though, so ring us and we will tell you what we can cover that week.
